THE BARONY MILL also known as Boardhouse Mill is recommended by Mrs G P Foster- Axten from Aberdeenshire "Off the beaten track but a real treasure, a working mill with a hands on approach and an excellent guide who having worked there gives a real feeling for the history of the place" During summer, the Mill is open to the public and has displays of photographs of old-time farming in Birsay, samples of the produce at each stage of the milling and milling tools. Tours include demonstrations of the running of the machinery and making the unique Orkney beremeal.WHERE? The Mill is located on the main road, A968, from Dounby to the Palace and the Brough of Birsay.. Opening Hours: 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 5pm.
