About me

Judith was born and bred in the Orkney Islands which is a group of 45 small Islands with a population of 21,000 situated .off the most Northern tip of Scotland. Judith has been in business for 32years and started when she was only 18yrs old. .The Orkney Knitwear collection is designed by Judith and made in Orkney by her skilled workforce of outworkers based all over the Islands.The collection has evolved over the years and Judith is very much influenced by Orkneys surrounding environment and its ancient past with its colourful land and seascapes.Nearly all the products you see on-line are totally unique to Judith including the Orkney hamper selection which begun as a seperate part of the business in 1986 and all the shop gifts have also been personally selected for the website.

Orkney Shop
Judiths Orkney shop is situated opposite St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, Orkneys main town.The Orkney shop sells all the items available on this website with also a huge range of other gifts, clothing, jellewellry, accessories, ceramics, gifts, Orkney food and drink, crafts and knitwear- if you have visited the shop and seen something you would like to order that is not available online then please simply e-mail info@judithglue.com and we will be very happy to mail it to you.In the summertime we often have young musicians busking outside and we offer free Orkney food tastings.
In March 2008 we were recommended by Peter Irvine from "Scotland The Best" the essential and only guide " worth a damn" about Scotland.

- is situated down near the Bridge on the River Ness it opened on the 8th November 2008 and despite opening at the beginning of a recession we have found that our customers are looking for something unique and not mass produced..
Here we represent makers from all over the Highlands and Islands many who live in the most remotest areas and are truly cottage industries.We also sell our own collections of Orkney Knitwear and supply Scottish food.

My Team

You may well find Judith answering your internet queries over the phone along with manageress Steph and Jenny. Cathy works in our workshop washing, pressing and labelling the knitwear and Annie- Judiths daughter often works in the shop and Elsa her niece also reluctantly! models her sweaters! . Judith also employs seasonal workers for the mail order and summer season and has around 15 outworkers who specialize in knitting and finishing all the knitwear.
And of course there are the girlswho run her Inverness shop- Cate the manageress, Jenny, Brenda and Christina.

My Ethos
l believe small is beautiful and believe in helping to sustain Orkneys independent and thriving small community and its unique environment by -
1- Employing people who live in Orkney to produce Orkney products which are produced or made from as much Orkney born raw materials or contents with the aim to reduce any negative inpact on the environment.
2- Buying as much as possible from other Orkney small craft and food producers who are based in Orkney who produce their own gifts, food or alchohol products and selling their products through my two shops and by mail order..

Charity Donations
l am actively involved in raising money which directly goes to a South African childrens nursery where l help to provide funds to provide towards their monthly food bill and also to help to pay for an extra teacher.Many of the children have been seriously affected by aids from losing their parents or from being HIV positive themselves. So far l have raised nearly £4500 by having fund raising activities, collecting loose change in my shop in Orkney and by having a collecting tin on Sigurd my wooden rocking horse which gives rides to children who come into my shop. l am very lucky to live in a beautiful place amongst people who have time to stop and talk to each other.It is becoming a rare thing to feel part of a community, where ever it is in the world you may live and luckily Orkney is still one of those places that people can say they have a sense of belonging. SATISFACTION OR FULL REFUND- We will exchange or refund any goods providing they are returned to us in perfect condition if possible within 28days providing they are not perishables- such as our food hampers. If any goods are lost in the post, providing we have been supplied with the correct delivery address incuding the postcode,then we will make a full refund.If we have been given the wrong address then there will be extra postage if you wish the goods to be re-sent.

Short Food Miles
We want you to receive Real Food and Drink from Orkney and Shetland that has real taste and quality and has not been mass produced. Many of our producers are small and have limited stocks, all their produce has short food miles and use as many local ingredients as possible.

Orkney Knitwear Sizing
If you are unsure of what size to order then please just measure a favourite sweater you already own and send the measurements you require by e-mail info@judithglue.com
A. Across the back measurement B. Centre of neckline to cuff. C. Neckline to hem and we will match up a garment to as close to your given measurements.

Otherwise our knitwear sizing guide is as followsXS fits 30"-32"(70-80cm). S fits 32"-34"(80-90cm) Mfits 36"-38"(90-100cm) L fits 40"-44"(100-110cm) XL fits 46"-48"(110-120cm) XXL fits 50" (126cm) unless otherwise stated.

Deduct vat
All orders delivered outside European EEC Countries, such as the USA and CANADA are Vat free, when you order just tick the exemption button to deduct the vat automatically on your order. Your airmail postal charges will be added automatically to give you a total bill- usually the vat charge which would normally be there makes up fpr the postal charges, so that it is quite favourable to order from outside Europe.

Delivery Charges

UK Orkney Hampers
We use a 24 hr parcelforce service for perishable food and a 48 hr Parcelforce service for non-perishable items ( please allow 2- 3 working days for delivery). All smoked salmon and meat is delivered by 1st class post. Parcelforce deliveries require a signature, if the reciever is not at home, then their postman will put a note through their door which would state where to pick up the parcel. Orders for hampers and food are sent out from Mon-Wed to avoid any weekend delay as. Parcelforce does not work at weekends. We take great care to ensure that the goods get to you in perfect condition but please allow for the odd broken biscuit ! We reserve the right to exchange any food product within a hamper, as many of our small producers can have a limited supply as they often prove to be very popular.We only accept orders from the UK for our Orkney hampers and Food Produce due to customs restrictions outside the UK. Post and Packing is inclusive in the price of all food and hamper orders except for some areas
Knitwear, Clothing and Gifts
UK- We use a 48hr parcelforce insured and tracked service and charge £7.95 for each delivery.For less valuable small

items which are not tracked and sent on their own there will be a charge of £3.00 2nd class post.
Delivery outside the UK but within Europe, Northern Ireland, Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Man. -Customers who live in the above countries cannot have their tax deducted. Orders will be sent by air mail post.
Cost up to 0.5K £7.95 0.5-1Kilo £10.00. 1-1.5Kilos £15.00 1.5- 2Kilos £20.00 any parcel weighing above 2kilos will be charged an extra 20p per 20g weight.
Customers outside Europe- such as the USA and Canada-We can deduct your vat tax from the cost of your order and send by airmail post.
Cost of post up to 0.5Kilo £15.00, 0.5 -1Kilo £22.00.1.5- 2Kilos £26.00.
1.5 - 2Kilos £38.00
Often the cost of postage is equivalent to the vat so your goods could end up the same price as buying in our shops in Scotland.
Note- Most garments weigh less than 1 kilo - you will find when you order from abroad online each item has a seperate postal cost and as postal costs can add up to over the amount you would have to actually pay we will always adjust your cost of postage down to as little as possible when we send outwith the UK.

Paying online
This is a secure on-line shopping site. All credit card numbers are encrypted in the software when the order is placed using 128 bit encryption. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer. They are not held in clear text on any web site. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Delta, Switch and Amex.If you are shopping from outside the UK, your credit card company will convert the transaction to your own currency which will show on your bank statement.
